Church News

VISITORS: If you are visiting today, please stop by the Information Center in the library for information on Bethel; you are also encouraged to fill out a welcome card located in the pews and place it in the offering bag. Please join us for coffee in the Fireside Room following our morning worship. You are also invited to join the group that is meeting for lunch in the church basement following our coffee time.

NEXT SUNDAY: The Lord’s Supper will be celebrated in our morning worship. There will be no evening service at Bethel due to the Lynden Christian/Ebenezer Christian centennial celebration worship gathering in the afternoon.

PROFESSION OF FAITH: At a special meeting of the elders last Sunday, July 18, the elders heard the professions of faith of Tori Roosma, Jordan Lofdahl, Kevin Steiger, and Nolan Wolffis. We thank God for His grace and the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of these young people. This evening we will hear the public professions of Tori, Jordan and Kevin and will also witness the baptism of Jordan. While Nolan will be making his public profession at a later time when his family can be present, we welcome all these young people into membership here at Bethel and to join us at the table of the Lord as we look forward, D.V., to celebrating communion next Sunday.

COFFEE TIME: The congregation is invited to go to the basement for coffee and cake following the evening service tonight.

REMINDER: Don’t forget to pick up a new church directory from the library.

BETH MOORE ESTHER VIDEOS: Join us Tuesday evening at 7:30 to watch the video, “The Right to Be Ready” at Sally Korthuis’ home.

WEDNESDAY NITES LIVE…THE FUN CONTINUES: The organizing team from Bethel, Third, and Amor Viviente invites you to attend our last two community-building events on the Wednesday evenings of August 4 & 11. The August 4 evening is a meal and water balloon fight, with live music; the August 11 evening will be an outdoor movie along with a corn-on-the-cob fest. Come join the festivities and meet and connect with neighbors you haven’t met before!
The organizing team still needs volunteers for helping to cook and serve the food as well as help with setup and tear down. They also need the following equipment: large gas outdoor burners (i.e. crab cookers) and large pots to boil corn. If you can volunteer or donate the use of a burner or large pot, please call Greg Bode or Jacob Steiger.

WORLD RELIGIONS CLASS: The topic for this week’s class (Wednesday at 7:30) is Islam.

REMINDER: The Christian Education Fund Committee reminds you that 10 percent of your pledge (this is the down payment) for the 2010-2011 school year is due by July 31.

CHURCH GARDEN: Produce from our garden is available to order throughout the summer; please contact Yuanita to place an order. Donations will be accepted for the young people who have been working in the garden. Produce available this week is leaf lettuce, peas, broccoli, cilantro, and lemon mint.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM JULY 20 COUNCIL MEETING:
- In his Church Plant report Aaron shared how their first two worship gatherings went and how well attended they were. He requests prayers that God would be glorified in their worship gatherings.
- The Building and Grounds Committee reported that the final cost for the new roof was approximately $57,699 and is completely paid.
- The Council approved the recommendation of the Vision Committee that one lay person be asked to serve on the Executive Committee as an ex officio member. This person will assist the Executive Committee and various other committees in carrying out their administrative functions.
